Nexi Digital Week
Nexi's annual banking convention — an event that brings together hundreds of partner banks across Italy — had to go fully online. We helped transform it into an immersive virtual production: a photorealistic XR studio built around Nexi's own architecture, broadcast live to thousands of attendees.
About Nexi
Nexi is one of Europe's leading PayTech companies, operating at the centre of Italy's banking and payments infrastructure — processing billions of transactions annually and serving as the technology backbone for hundreds of partner banks across the country.
A flagship event for Italy's banking sector — moved entirely online
Every year, Nexi gathers its network of partner banks for a flagship convention — a multi-day event where relationships are built, products are launched, and the direction of Italian PayTech is set. In 2020, that event could not happen in person. The challenge wasn't just to stream it. It was to preserve everything that made it worth attending — the atmosphere, the stage presence, the sense of occasion — and deliver it digitally to an audience that expected more than a video call.
1
This wasn't a webinar It was a broadcast
Nexi's Digital Week is a cornerstone event for its partner bank network. The audience expected production values that matched the organisation's standing in the market. A low-budget online format would have sent exactly the wrong message — to partners, to the industry, and internally. The bar was set from the start: the virtual edition had to feel as significant as the physical one.
2
The venue had to be virtual — but unmistakably Nexi
Part of what makes a live event memorable is place. Nexi's convention is associated with specific locations — including the iconic Arco della Pace in Milan. Recreating that sense of place in a digital environment, accurately and at broadcast quality, required highly detailed 3D content that could be seamlessly integrated with live camera footage in real time.
3
Real speakers. Virtual world. One seamless experience
The hardest part of extended reality production is the seam — the moment where the virtual environment fails to match the physical reality of the presenter standing in front of a camera. Every lighting mismatch, every perspective error, every low-resolution asset breaks the illusion. Getting this right, consistently, across five days of live broadcast, left no margin for error.
The Solution

A virtual city built for live broadcast

Feature #1
Photorealistic 3D environments
Detailed virtual sets built to broadcast standard — including a faithful recreation of Milan's Arco della Pace and surrounding urban spaces, accurate in lighting, scale, and architectural detail.
Feature #2
XR studio integration
All 3D content was engineered for real-time compositing with live camera footage — perspective, lighting, and spatial logic aligned precisely so presenters appeared naturally inside the virtual world.
Feature #3
Multi-environment production
Five days, multiple session formats, one consistent visual identity. Each programme segment had its own dedicated environment tailored to the content — keynote stage, discussion space, product showcase.
Feature #4
Seamless physical-to-digital transition
The join between real and virtual was invisible. Speakers weren't in front of a backdrop — they were inside the environment. That seamlessness was the defining quality of the broadcast.
What virtual production delivered for Nexi
The Nexi Digital Week demonstrated that a high-stakes corporate event doesn't need a physical venue to command attention. The right production approach can deliver the atmosphere, the authority, and the audience engagement that only live events used to provide.
A national event became borderless
Without venue capacity limits, the virtual format reached partner banks across Italy simultaneously. No travel, no scheduling conflicts, no capacity ceiling.
No venue. No travel. No catering.
The virtual format eliminated the physical infrastructure costs of a multi-day convention — venue hire, travel coordination, accommodation, on-site logistics. That budget went into production quality instead.
Immersive, not just remote
Attendees weren't watching a video call — they were watching a produced broadcast inside a photorealistic digital world. The distinction mattered in engagement, tone, and how the event was remembered.
